Inspections.

Over time, plant performance naturally degrades. 90% of installed plants have opportunities for performance improvement. Our inspectors are trained to find these opportunities for improvement by identifying parasitic losses within the HRSG and balance of plant. From a routine inspection to unplanned operational outages, we are the OEM with the engineering know-how to execute a safe and comprehensive inspection plan.

We Inspect:

    • 1. Valves
    • 2. Heat Tracing
    • 3. Drums
    • 4. Risers
    • 5. Instrumentation
    • 6. Borescope
    • 7. Deaerator
    • 8. Attemperator
    • 9. Hanger Rods
    • 10. SCR
    • 11. Tube Failure Analysis
    • 12. Exfoliation
    • 13. Expansion Joints
    • 14. Stack & Stack Corrosion

HRSG Visual Inspections

Over time, plant performance naturally degrades. 90% of installed plants have opportunities for performance improvement. Vogt Power inspectors are trained to find these opportunities by identifying parasitic losses within the HRSG and balance of plant.

Videoscope Inspections

On-site walkdown and assessment of equipment using specialized inspection equipment like videoscopes or borescopes.

FAC Inspection & UT Mapping

A comprehensive ultrasonic thickness (UT) testing of all HRSG FACE-problem areas, including the feedwater inlet piping. We provide a description package and preparation guidelines so the customer can prepare the equipment for the inspector to test. Vogt will record and provide these UT readings on a matrix grid for future ease of testing and analysis.

A detailed FAC videoscope inspection can be utilized to inspect the HP, IP, and LP evaporator tubes accessed through the drums. If access is provided by the plant, inspection of the economizers and water preheaters can also be performed. For best results, it is recommended that customers provide as much access as possible.
A videoscope inspection allows easier identification of problems such as corrosion, deposits, erosion or FAC. It may also prevent the need for costly tube sample removal and evaluation.

Unless the customer requests it, videoscoping the feedwater piping and economizer headers are not usually done. The condition of that equipment is discussed with the customer on-site, after UT readings have been taken.

High Energy Piping

High energy piping inspections and hot and cold walkdowns of the piping hangers is critical and should be done on an annual basis. During outages, welds and welded components in the various high energy piping systems should be inspected.

Hot & Cold Pipe Hanger Survey

An external inspection of the HRSG during operation. The inspection focuses on issues typically found due to thermal expansion or other operating problems.

Drone Inspections

On-site walkdown and assessment of equipment using specialized inspection equipment like drones.

IR Thermal Imaging Survey

An infrared camera is used in conjunction with a visual inspection to identify hot spots and/or problematic areas for further study.

Condition and Remaining Life Assessment

A combination of on-site walkdown and assessment of equipment using specialized inspection equipment such as microstructure replication, coupled with an in-office assessment and engineering calculations.

Operations and Engineering Review

Includes additions, improvements and modifications to all types of boiler surfaces, SCR, and CO catalyst additions, performance-efficiency improvements, steam-quality improvements, duct, boiler casing and liner upgrades, duct burner additions and plant assessment.

Service Agreements

Frame agreements that cover a wide range of potential services.

Inspection Options.

Comprehensive UT and FAC Inspection Programs

On-site walkdown and assessment of equipment using specialized inspection equipment such videoscopes or borescopes and/or ultrasonic sensors.

Tube Sample and Failure Analysis

We work with the customer advising where to take the sample for testing. The tube samples are sent to the lab to determine if any degradation is occurring and what might be causing that degradation.

Metallographic Replications

A technician diligently prepares a non-destructive sample of piping or other pressure part for a replication of the grain structure onto film, which can be examined under a microscope to diagnose microstructure issues.

Positive Material Identification (PMI)

Either a rigorous documentation package of the material origin and manufacturing process or an audit of a material by X-Ray Fluorescence to determine the chemical composition.

Material Sample Analysis

A sample piece of pressure part is cut out (destructive examination) and sent to a lab for analysis.

This typically takes two days on-site for each HRSG. The inspection includes external, gas side and waterside (drums) inspection. This inspection includes a small amount of spot UT measurements in areas deemed to be susceptible to thinning on that specific HRSG.

We focus on the larger areas of concern designated by either the customer or from Vogt’s inspection of areas susceptible to thinning for the specific HRSG.

Videoscoping is performed from inside the drums into the evaporator sections. This can typically be done during the same two days of a standard inspection.
